Examination technique: Cambridge Exams (PET, First etc.)

This week, here are some tips that you might find useful for preparing for the day of a Cambridge Exam.

Preparar Cambridge First PEt Young Learner exam con miprofedeingles.info Firstly, make sure you are completely familiar with the structure of the exam and you know exactly what you have to do.

One way to check your answers, especially if you are not sure is to use a process of elimination (la técnica del descarte).

If you haven’t done a timed exam yet, you should try to do one to get used to working under pressure. Also, make sure you understand what is required when filling in the answer sheets. Make sure you are familiar with the format of the answer sheets that accompany each of the papers; be clear what you are required to write on each one. The best way to practise this is to look at samples and try completing them now, instead of waiting until the big day.

Every time you do a practice test from now on, try to use an answer sheet to record your answers.

As far as your English is concerned, you can only really do your best on the day.  For the Speaking paper, revise some vocabulary, especially different ways to express likes and dislikes.

In particular make sure you:
Read the instructions carefully; these explain what you are required to do.
Write your answers clearly and in the correct order.

For the Writing Paper, be sure to answer the exact questions which you are asked – not just what would like to write or have memorised specially.

First impressions are very important – be well dressed with smart casual clothing, so you feel comfortable; whatever makes you feel good.
